For some challenges

I usually don't do any crafting on weekends,  but hubby was working,  and kiddos didn't want to leave the house since it's so hot and humid nowadays, our usual summer weather. So sat down to do some crafty work.
Sharing 2 cards today.
The first one is a monochromatic card.
For this card,  I traced and cut out a flower stencil myself.
I really LOVE how soft and subtle this card has come out!

Colour Me

Used peacock feathers distress ink to sponge the flowers with a light hand, and fuzzy cut the sentiment and placed it on purpose in a random way.

I traced the flower from a cookie box cover.

There - my stencil and mask.

The second card, I used a kraft color card stock, and used a pattern paper with some scripts,
I cut out a flower, and inked in different colors, using the sketch and colors from the fusion challenge.

A scrapling

Every crafter will have some scrap papers of different lengths and widths left out with them. I chose a paper left out strip to make this scrapling.
For this I chose the tissue paper transfer technique, first I added a bit of old news paper using this technique and then went on to add the tissue paper,  its a 3 ply tissue so peeled it and used the colored layer with the image of a wine glass and some grapes. It is a bit time consuming process.
Then I inked some golden shimmering ink on my honeycomb stencil. Distress the top edge and the side close to the glass, used a brown ink for this.
For the sentiment, I used letters and words from an old scrap paper.
If you notice,  I had to use different letters to form a word.
Lastly,  I added a bamboo straw to tie as a ribbon.
the finish look, feels like a tissue paper!

You can see the sides of the tissue paper, kind of embossed look.

The letter and words I used for my sentiment.

I put it against the window to show the newspaper layer behind the tissue.

the golden honeycomb stenciled ink.

the bamboo straw, you can also see the card stock color I had used, its an off white card stock with a very light green tint.

Items I used for recycling :
Scrap paper for scrapling
old newspaper
Tissue
scrap paper for letters and words
Bamboo straw

I couldn't click pictures of the process, since it was a bit messy process, and my hands were occupied. for the transfers I had to use the plastic cling wrap and iron, you can imagine my hands were really full...would have loved extra pair of hands on me ;).

I made this one exclusive for Virginia's View Challenge!

Indian wedding inspired card

I have tried to make a wedding congratulations card based on the Indian weddings.
In India,  weddings are a full of color,  flowers and lots of shimmer. Summer is the season for weddings,  and I always miss out on the weddings as my kids school summer vacation is July and August,  and not many weddings take place during that time.
Red is the color for most brides, of course there are different colors too. But I went with a red and beige card stock, and some matching flowers.
I drew the bride's face and used my gel pen to add shimmer to the veil. The sentiment panel is cut from one side in the face shape.

Added a tear drop shaped rhinestone to mimic the hair jewellery, and drew the nose ring using a golden gel pen.

My card is pretty much close to the sketch, instead of the doily, I added the bride's veil, and a ribbon behind the panel.

An Indian wedding themed card, bit different from all the entries!

Added plenty of flowers as per the inspiration picture, and chose the beige color too!

Coming in to edit this post, which I thought I added Time Out but realized I didn't.
For me summer is all about marriages, in India it is the most busiest times for weddings, that sometimes there are more than a couple of wedding in a given day. And we love colors and flowers so much.

Be the best of whatever you are!

This card is going to be my absolute favorite now onwards. Made it for the CASology's cue card - shine, a masculine card for sure. Used the words from my favorite poem, titled - "Be the best of whatever you are".
Masked a circle and then added my homemade sunburst stencil to ink the sun, using 2 different shades of yellow. Added a tiny star.  Yes , the placement of star might be a question to some ;-), but this is how exactly where I wanted the star to be, so that both the elements are right in front of the eyes at once. The sun and star are appropriately sized as per my sentiment! My interpretation of shine is pretty simple, no matter who you are, and where you are,  do your best and you will SHINE.

I first heard this poem in 2012, during my son's grade 6 graduation ceremony, and fell in love with the words, since it is a masculine card for any men in your lives, I thought of adding it here at Fab 'n' Funky too.

Lastly I though of adding it to the Card Concept too, since I have all the four colors mentioned in their challenge, not very vividly, but certainly a touch of the 4 colors is there.
Yellow sun, black sentiment, white card base, and silvery grey star.

Editing it , to add to Simon Says Wednesday Challenge

The poem I chose my sentiment from - the last 3 lines

If you can’t be a pine on the top of the hill,
Be a scrub in the valley – but be
The best little scrub by the side of the rill;
Be a bush if you can’t be a tree.
If you can’t be a bush be a bit of the grass,
And some highway happier make;
If you can’t be a muskie then just be a bass -
But the liveliest bass in the lake!
We can’t all be captains, we’ve got to be crew,
There’s something for all of us here.
There’s big work to do, and there’s lesser to do,
And the task you must do is the near.
If you can’t be a highway then just be a trail,
If you can’t be the sun be a star;
It isn’t by size that you win or you fail -
Be the best of whatever you are!
–Douglas Malloch

Hope you like the poem, its one of my favorites from my collection!

Up cycled card

Life is returned to normalcy after a super duper hectic last week running between hospital and home. My son Alfaaz was discharged on Monday afternoon, and today he is back to school. Poor boy missed all his CAT's, luckily it would not affect his final term scores. I am glad that we are in Canadian school and we still have a few more days of school left for this academic year. Thank you all for the good wishes!
Ok now to the card! About 10 days back we got a post from our Internet provider, and  I think it is a happy birthday card? Does not look like a card though. But thought it was perfect for Virginia's View Challenge! click here to see the details of the challenge.
It is made up of vinyl plastic, I carefully pulled it off, and made a tall card using this.
Chose a black background card stock for this. Added the recycling layer and added a button with a twine to finish off.

Shaving foam technique

This is my second post of the day, I made this card based on the technique provided by the JUGS. I have a feeling that I will be hooked on this one. So easy to do and the effect is awesome. It reminds me of my water nail marbles nail art.
I didn't create a marble,  but some flowers with marble effect. Used only black and red inks.

Because you are so

Sharing a very simple card with soft colors.
Added a floral pattern paper with soft colors, then embossed it and stamped the sentiments on. That's it!

Kept all the colors really soft and subtle for this lovely inspiration picture.

I just love the layout of Vicki's card very much, so used the sketch. Changed the placements of the sentiments just a bit, but added a couple of them.

A quick post

I haven't been crafting or blogging lately. In my last post,  I mentioned my son being sick, he needed to be hospitalized. So life has been pretty busy, shuttling between home and hospital, and sleepless nights and house chores....plus some special home cooking, I always cook for my family. He is doing fine now,  and will be home tomorrow.

While being inactive on my blog, a lot has happened, I was chosen as chic of the week at JUGS, chosen  as Connoisseur  at Colour me ,  Top pick at Catchy Challenges ... Thank you all for inspiring me, I am truly inspired by all you wonderful crafters.

Hubby sent me home,  asking me to relax,  but I cannot nap during daytime. Card making is my stress buster. Made these 2 quick cards.

The first one is for Taheerah's Cure for the Monday blues. I never thought that I would have time to execute this card, but here it is, a very simple card. Used my handmade sunburst stencil and cloud stencil. Stamped the sentiment, since it is the sentiment which has to standout, everything else is very subtle on this card.

I had picked up some of the colors, the background pattern on the wall, and the clouds from the inspiration picture.

Drew the stick woman myself(LOL, I am laughing too), used the cloud  as a speech bubble.
-------------------------------------------

Made a shaker card on the bee theme, I inked the colors yellow and black, and the colors kind of give a outline around the shaker panel (I could only get the top part in the picture), drew the sentiment myself ;-)

Posting this card with the CASology

My interpretation of the cue word is the colors, yellow and black, and the transparent panel  used for the shaker part as the wings of the bee. The sentiment is drawn in a way to represent the bees path
